Now that it's FINALLY summer, I can FINALLY start on my summer book list! During the semester, it's very hard to find time to read books for fun, so I have a list of books I'm looking forward to reading this summer. I'm currently reading
Pride and Prejudice, which I started a few days ago. I've seen the 2005 movie version, and I own the 1995 BBC version which is great, but I've never read the book. So far I'm enjoying it - although reading Jane Austen before bed is a little difficult, especially when I get sleepy and come across words in the English language I've never seen before!
These are some of the other books I'd like to read this summer:
- Johnny Tremain (re-read from 4th grade, apparently it's actually a good book if you're not reading it in a class with a teacher you don't like)
- Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (re-read before the movie comes out on July 15th)
- Scarlett (the unofficial sequel to Gone With The Wind, which I read this past winter)
- The Red Tent
- The Golden Compass series
- The Great Gatsby (re-read from 8th grade Humanities class)
- Twelfth Night (re-read before HOPEFULLY getting tickets to see the Shakespeare in the Park performance)
If I make it through all of those I might start on the
Twilight series...I haven't decided if I want to actually read them or not. My friend Jackie compared the series to crack: you know it's bad while you're reading it, but you just can't stop, you have to keep going anyway. If I feel like a quick trashy beach read, I might pick them up. I'll see how far through the list I can get first!

i looooooooove pride and prejudice. read everything jane austen has written, ever. it's only 6 books, not that hard!
ReplyDeleteand scarlett sucks. it's a good book insofar as it's relatively well-written, but it completely destroys the character of scarlett. gone with the wind is one of my favorite books and i was so disappointed.
golden compass series is amazing!
and i am planning on shakespeare in the park as well! hopefully :-)
i feel the same way about twilight...i feel like i have to read it to criticize it adequately. but i also don't want to because it looks terrible.
i just read the namesake and interpreter of maladies, both really good. my goal for the summer is to diminish my shelf of books i bought in the strand/got for christmas and haven't read yet, and to reread a tale of two cities and les mis now that i have been to paris. :-D

Pride & Prejudice is a lovely book! Oh and the film and the BBC serie.. :):) I read "The Reader" at the moment, it's a heavy story but with the movie in my mind.. (beautiful Kate Winslet!!)
